MOUR TIME WITH JOSE EXCITES ROM

- FROM DAVID MCDONNELL in Los Angeles

ROMELU LUKAKU revealed that he is delighted to be back working with Jose Mourinho again.

The striker, who played under Mourinho at Chelsea, will join up with United on their pre-season tour of the US today after completing his £75million move from Everton.

And the 24-year-old, who snubbed the chance to return to Chelsea this summer, admitted the Special One was a key factor behind his decision to join United.

Lukaku said: “Mourinho is a guy I wanted to play for since I was 10, so now to have the opportunity to work under him again is great.

“We’ve been in contact. He explained what the club is like, what he expects from me.

“The first time I met him, I was still a young kid and I was eager to play. And he understood my decision, why I left at the time.

“Now I’m a grown man. He sees the maturity which has grown throughout the years, so I’m really thankful for the opportunity he has given me again.” Lukaku also revealed the role pal Paul Pogba, United’s world-record £89m signing, played in his switch.

The pair have been holidaying together in LA, and Lukaku (below) told ESPN: “I’ve been talking to Pogba for about eight years. And now he’s living in Manchester.

“He was explaining to me how it was at the club and it triggered something in my head. When the opportunity came, I didn’t have to think twice. I’m really excited.

“All the United guys are top players and hungry to win trophies.

“And to play in front of those fans, everything is set there to perform.

“But I must work harder than I’m doing now. For me, it’s the perfect opportunity.

“I’ve never won a major trophy, but I’m eager to win something and be part of a team that wins trophies.”

United begin their tour with a training session at the UCLA campus in LA today, and Lukaku said it was a no-brainer to join once he knew they wanted him.

He said: “My mind was set. I gave my word and I didn’t look back. I was mentally preparing to be part of the team.”
