Mum’s verdict on Montana’s sex on TV.. OUR WORLD HAS STOPPED

Mother’s grief for Donny, 6, killed as he played in street

A MOTHER whose son died from head injuries told yesterday how their world just stopped in a moment.

Sarah Maguire, 39, moved to Derry a year ago from Holland with her three children.

But on Tuesday, six-year-old Donny was found dying on the road just metres from their Bogside home after a suspected collision with a car.

Sarah said: “I looked at my son and I knew, I just knew. He was gone. I felt the life was just draining out of him.”

THE mother of tragic six-year-old Donny Maguire said yesterday: “I have no hate in my heart for the person who was involved.

“This was a terrible, terrible accident and we’ll all live with the consequences of it for the rest of our lives.”

Sarah Maguire, 39, explained how she was struggling to understand the tragedy that happened at around 10.30am on Tuesday, moments after her son walked out of the front door of the family home in Derry.

Little Donny, her youngest child, was found lying unconscious on the road just metres from the house in the Bogside area. It is thought he may have been struck by a car.

The youngster had suffered a serious head injury and died a short time later in Altnagelvin Hospital.

Sarah said: “I let him out. I trusted he would be safe.

“Donny was an incredible wee boy, funny and adventurous, a little boy who knew no fear and lived every moment to the full.

“In a moment our world just stopped. I just can’t understand how that can be. I blame myself for allowing him to go outside.

“I keep coming back to that but I know there was no one to blame really. It was an accident.”

Sarah ran to her son’s side after hearing a commotion in the street. He was lying unconscious on the road with neighbours trying to help him, desperate to keep him alive until an ambulance arrived. The devastated mum said: “I looked at my son and I knew, I just knew. He was gone.

“He had a terrible injury to his head and there wasn’t a sound or a movement out of him.

CONFIDENT

“He looked so different, not like my little boy. I felt the life was just draining out of him.

“People were trying to save him and he had not gone completely at that stage but something in me knew, I knew he couldn’t be saved.

“Perhaps it was a mother’s instinct but my heart knew he was gone from me, gone forever. I looked at him and saw the most perfect angel, my beautiful boy.

“I couldn’t believe my son, who was always so filled with fun and life, was so still.

“From his earliest days he felt invincible as most children do, but he felt larger than life.

“He’d look up at a tree and tell me, ‘Mummy, I’m bigger than the tree’.

“He was confident and happy, he felt safe and secure, he felt big and strong, bigger and stronger than life itself.

“Even moving from Holland to
