Hoops an incentive for Kenny
STEPHEN KENNY knows that Celtic will be eyeing up Rosenborg and vice-versa after yesterday’s Champions Cup second qualifying round draw.
But the Dundalk boss admits his players have been given extra motivation to turn the tables in Trondheim next week after Celtic/linfield came out of the draw drum paired with Dundalk/ Rosenborg.
It shows how far the Lilywhites have come that they were disappointed to draw 1-1 with the Norwegian champions at Oriel Park last Thursday, but Kenny is not giving up on his side creating more history.
“Listen, realistically
Celtic will be planning to play Rosenborg because they have the away goal and with that predigree, and with home advantage, they will be strong favourites to play them,” the Dundalk supremo told Mirrorsport.
“But from our point of view, we’re very focussed on the away tie in Trondheim.
“We’ll give it everything and fight for the right to go through.
“But that’s the draw, and so then we’ll look forward to that then if we progress. It would be a great occasion.
“I was very pleased with the way the players performed on Wednesday, I felt we were the better team and deserved to win.
“But they’ll be better in Trondheim, you feel.
“Games in Europe rarely finish 0-0 and so the away goal can be deemed somewhat irrelevant. It means if it finishes 1-1 over, we’ll have extra-time.
“It’s definitely still there for us.”
