Dettori set for Oaks double

- BY PETER O’HEHIR

JUDGED on her impressive victory in the Investec Oaks in Epsom, Enable is impossible to oppose in her bid for an Oaks double in today’s Darley Irish Oaks at the Curragh.

The lightly-raced daughter of Nathaniel, bidding to give John Gosden a second win in the race and a fourth for Frankie Dettori, spread-eagled her rivals in Epsom, slamming Ballydoyle fillies Rhododendron and Alluringly by five lengths and six lengths.

That display confirmed the promise of her previous starts, a maiden win, on her debut on Newcastle’s all-weather surface in November, a very promising third to stable-companion Shutter Speed at Newbury on her seasonal debut and a defeat of Alluringly in the Cheshire Oaks at Chester.

Enable’s performance under Dettori at Epsom oozed class, travelled sweetly in third place, quickened into the lead and stayed on powerfully.

Open to further improvement, she should be even more suited by the Curragh terrain and is a confidence choice to become the 14th filly to complete the Epsom-curragh Oaks double.

John Gosden, who won this race with Great Heavens in 2012, provides one of the biggest threats to Enable in the shape of

narrow winner of the Ribblesdale Stakes at Royal Ascot last time, and the mount again of Olivier Peslier.

Coronet is rated 2lb below Aidan O’brien’s

, a progressive filly which produced a career best when runner-up to Nezwaah in the Group 1 Pretty Polly over a mile and a quarter of today’s journey.

Seamus Heffernan will be on Rain Goddess while Wayne Lordan will partner

held by Enable on Cheshire and Epsom Oaks form.

Realistically, it’s difficult to fancy many of the other fillies, including last year’s Moyglare winner

held by Rain Goddess on her sixth in the Pretty Polly and representing the O’brien brothers.

So it should be handy for Enable and Frankie Dettori, who has won this race on Lailani (2001), Vintage Tipple (2003) and Blue Bunting (2011).

On the supporting card, last year’s Prix de l’abbaye winner stands out in the Group 2 Friarstown Stud Sapphire Stakes.

Sir Mark Prescott’s 116rated filly finished a highly creditable third to Lady Aurelia in the Group 1 King’s Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot last time. And she should be very tough to beat here.

Winner of the Marble Hill on this track on his second start,

finished a solid fourth behind Rajasinghe in the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot and sets the standard in the Group 3 Jebel Ali Silver Jubilee Anglesey Stakes.

And Aidan O’brien’s

might make it third-time-lucky in the concluding maiden.
