Call leads to flight drama

AN RAF tanker plane and two US F15 fighters flew within 160ft of each other as a flight controller was distracted by a phone call, an official report said.

The RAF Voyager was flying over 320mph on January 5 this year.

It happened 10 miles off the north Norfolk coast.

The report said the controller misunderstood the US jets’ flight path and took a call thinking they’d be further south.

It added the call meant he didn’t focus on the F15s.
