Beat stress.. go and do the washing up

- BY STIAN ALEXANDER

MORE than half of us clean the house to shake off stress, with hoovering and washing the dishes the most popular tasks.

Some 55% said having a tidy home made them instantly feel calmer.

And they reported tensions easing after just 13 minutes of housework.

One third said they started cleaning things even if they were already spotless, as the routine helped them to relax.

The average adult spends more than two hours a day fretting over bills, their health and workloads, a survey found.

Kärcher UK said the adage “tidy home, tidy mind” rang true, adding: “Not only does cleaning leave you satisfied but being able to sit in a tidy room is relaxing in itself.”
