Naughty but nice.. our mum

-

WHEN Prince Harry spoke out about his grief for the loss of his mother Princess Diana recently, our collective hearts ached.

It has been 20 years since Diana died aged 36 in a car crash in a Parisian tunnel on August 31, 1997.

But who can forget those heartbreaking images of her young sons William and Harry following her coffin through the streets of London? Harry has since said: “No child should be asked to do that.”

This is the latest in a string of interviews with the Princes, but it’s an extremely intimate meeting as William, HRH The Duke of Cambridge, and Prince Harry sit huddled over a family photo album.

“This is the first time that the two of us have ever spoken about her as a mother,” says Harry. “She was the naughtiest of parents.”

While William says: “Believe it or not, you and I are both in this photograph, you’re in the tummy!”

He adds: “She was very informal and really enjoyed the laughter and the fun. She understood that there was a real life outside of palace walls.”

This 90-minute film is a moving tribute to Diana, including never-seen-before photos taken from her own personal album, as well as tributes from relatives and friends, including Sir Elton John, Rihanna, The Rt Hon The Earl Spencer (Diana’s brother), Jayne Fincher (royal photographer), Anna Harvey (personal stylist) and Graham Dillamore (gardens manager, Kensington Palace).

But the most touching moments are from the Princes, who recall their fond childhood memories, as well as their lastever conversations with their mother.

Harry says: “She was our mum. She still is our mum. And of course, as a son, I would say this, she was the best mum in the world. She smothered us with love, that’s for sure.”
