DERRY’S Conor Glass shone on his AFL debut in Hawthorn’s stunning 48-100 away win against Fremantle at Perth’s Domain Stadium on Saturday.

Hawthorn, the most successful AFL side in the past decade, dominated from start to finish to keep their slim finals hopes alive from 12th place in the table as they rebuild their team with young talent.

Glass came on after seven minutes of the first quarter and looked remarkably composed across half-back in front of 30,818 supporters.

“I was a bit nervous before I came on but once I got my hands on the ball, I settled down,” Glass said.

“My parents were both here to watch the game and my mum was more nervous than I was!

“They are flying home happy tomorrow.”

The Adelaide Crows won their top of the table showdown 91-70 against Geelong at the Adelaide Oval with Zach Tuohy producing a typically consistent four-quarter performance despite being on the losing side with 23 disposals (16 kicks & seven handballs) and six marks.

On Saturday lunchtime, Essendon moved into finals contention with a solid 132-105 win against lowly North Melbourne.

Tyrone’s Conor Mckenna had a quiet game with 10 disposals (seven kicks & three handballs) and one mark.

In the Saturday twilight game at Cazaly’s Stadium in Cairns, the Western

Bulldogs demolished the undermanned Gold Coast Suns 110-56 for whom Mayo’s Pearce Hanley had 21 disposals (10 kicks & 11 handballs) and seven marks.
