Roscommon 2-9 Mayo 1-12 SF Championship quarter-final
MAYO and Roscommon will do it all again in seven days time after their enthralling All-ireland SFC quarter-final ended in stalemate yesterday.
The GAA confirmed last night that the
Connacht rivals will face off in the replay on
Bank Holiday Monday (August 7), although no throw-in time has yet been confirmed.
Two other quarter-finals are down for next Saturday – Tyrone v Armagh (4pm) and Dublin v Monaghan (6pm).
Roscommon manager Kevin Mcstay and Stephen Rochford, his Mayo counterpart, were in agreement that the bank holiday was the right time to go again after yesterday’s stalemate.
“Monday here, that’s what we want,” stressed Mcstay.
“It can’t be anywhere else, if people are dreaming up Salthill or somewhere else for the craic of it – we have no helicopters or an airport in Roscommon.
“It has to be here, this is where the All Ireland quarter-finals are held.”
And Mayo manager Rochford agreed:
“We’ve had All-ireland quarter-finals on a bank holiday Monday before, so I think for me it would be the obvious choice.”
