officers and the RSPCA entered Woodhill Farm and found 102 dogs being kept in squalid conditions.

Sixty were rehomed and 40 put down. The animals, some of them puppies, had been kept in dirty kennels contaminated with urine and faeces. There were also dead dogs on the site.

Chief Insp Mcdonald said it was the “worst case of animal neglect” he had ever seen, adding: “The horrible smell, the dirt – it was like a medieval scene.”

Of the dogs found at the farm, the 40 put down were either deemed dangerous or had severe medical conditions and were suffering.

Islam, of Edgware, North London, also admitted being in breach of an order disqualifying him from keeping dogs, and causing unnecessary suffering to dogs. Jailing him, Judge John Plumstead said: “These were not everyday dogs. They were all large and potentially violent dogs... kept in dreadful conditions in a way which could only be described as scandalous.

“This was not a legitimate business because he was in no position to legally be doing what he was doing.”

Islam was banned in 2012 from keeping animals for 10 years by Bedford magistrates because of his ill treatment of dogs in a similar operation. Beata, of East London, now pregnant with her second child, said: “The attack is in my nightmares, still now.

“But I am lucky I am here, I thank God for that – I still have my life.”

But she said Islam should have been jailed for longer, adding: “My life is changed forever. He will spend maybe one year in jail and he will go out, he’s going to be normal – he will have his arm and everything. That’s not fair.
