DOUBLE WHISKEY

-

WHISKEY SOUR landed his second big pot of the week at Galway when the 7/4 favourite arrived late to beat Mawaany in the Guinness Handicap for Willie Mullins and Declan Mcdonogh.

Mullins was winning his third premier handicap at this year’s Festival and he said: “He was 5lbs well in and, with a pot like that, we had to let him take his chance. He loves this track – he won his maiden here as a two-year-old and it’s great to win those two big flat races with him – the prize money is so good.”

Mcdonogh and Mullins have a big chance of winning the final day feature here tomorrow the Ahonoora Handicap, with last Tuesday’s big race victor, Riven Light.

It was a good night for the

Mullins family as Top Ofthe

Ra won the opening Guinness Handicap Hurdle for the father and son team of David and Tom Mullins.

The 10/1 shot was dismounted on his way back to the winners enclosure and to his credit he found plenty from the last to beat Golden Spear.

Mullins said: “He’s had his problems down the years, but he won his bumper here. He only just won his maiden hurdle a few weeks ago at Ballinrobe, so I wasn’t confident coming here today, but he has been a grand horse for us.”

Kevin Manning and Brendan Duke combined to win the two-year-old seven furlong auction maiden with Warm The Voice.

The colt ran a promising race on his debut when third at Leopardstown last week and Duke said: “I love this horse and he has a future.

“I’ll speak with Jim and Jackie (Bolger) and see what they would like to do, but I’d be in rush to run him back soon.’ Rivera Sun was galvanised by Barry Geraghty to win the Guinness Galway Blazers for Henry de Bromhead.

The trainer said: “That was brilliant and it’s a lovely race to win. I’ll see what Frank and JP want to do and he got that trip well, so that opens up more options for him.”
