CELTS SEAL RIVALDO DEAL

- BY MICHAEL GANNON

CELTIC last night clinched the signing of South African ace Rivaldo Coetzee – but Jozo Simunovic is not for sale.

Defender Coetzee (left) will arrive in Scotland to finalise his £800,000 move from Ajax Cape Town in the next couple of days but Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers insisted his club are in no hurry to sell any of their stars.

The South African side anounced the move last night on their website in a statement. It read: “Ajax Cape Town is extremely proud to announce an agreement with Glasgow Celtic, for the sale of defender Rivaldo Coetzee has been concluded.

“Everyone at Ajax Cape Town is extremely proud to see one of our own take the next step in their football career and wishes Coetzee all the best in his future endeavours. Good luck and make us proud ‘Riva’!”

The arrival of Coetzee will bolster Celtic’s defensive options but although Burnely and Torino are keeping tabs on Simunovic, the Hoops board are under no pressure to cash in.

Rodgers said: “We don’t have a great need to sell anyone. That is the message.

“I understand that what you will have now is a real focus on a lot of our players because of the level they are playing at and their quality.

“Managers and coaches looking from the outside in will think, ‘Wow these players are playing for a big club, dealing with pressure and dealing well with it’.

“And if they see they can do that they will know for sure that they would be able to play for their clubs. But we have no need to sell.”
