deeper squad than last year so we don’t have any excuses.

“Aiming for consolidation isn’t something we are considering, we need to do more.

“We can challenge Portadown this year, we’ve worked this summer on signing the players who we believe can improve us and take us to the next level.

“This division is blood and thunder; it’s never as easy for club’s dropping down from the Premiership.”

The Comrades have made a strong start, winning both their opening games with Saturday’s win at Knockbreda seeing four red cards handed out including three to the visitors.

“Knockbreda are an extremely physical side, it’s a big part of their game plan,” explained Adams.

“They’ve some excellent players and are not easy to play against, but on Saturday it went a little bit beyond that and I’m sure they’re extremely frustrated.

“To start off with six points from six is a big boost.

“We set ourselves a target for the first three games and we’ll continue to do so throughout the season. Our away record in general over recent times hasn’t been good enough. Dixon Park has been a fortress for us but we need to start becoming more consistent on the road and take more points so it was very pleasing for us to battle through to three points.

“Going a player down with the scores locked at 1-1 we may have caved in before but we knuckled down and fought to the win.”
