WE’RE ON THE MONEY

Paddy Power already returns £253,000 on bets backing US fighter Veteran sports reporter Mcgee says Conor has no chance

money expected to come in the 36 hours before the first bell sounds in Las Vegas on Saturday night.

It is more than three times the size of the previous biggest boxing market, when Mayweather, 40, fought Manny Pacquiao in 2015 and by far the bookie’s biggest event of the year.

But legendary sports presenter Jimmy Mcgee believes 29-year-old Mcgregor will last a few rounds before being knocked out by the undefeated Mayweather.

The 81-year-old thinks the Dubliner will manage “four or five rounds” on Saturday night’s multi-million dollar mega bout in Las Vegas.

He told the Daily

Mirror: “This is not antimcgregor or anti-anybody but I will put it to you like this Dublin have probably the best Gaelic football team at the moment for a while and it’s like going out there today to the local pub and gathering up a lot of fellas to play against Dublin – do you think they would have a chance?

“They have the same chance as Mcgregor has – none. That’s all it is, it’s entertainment. It’s not sport. “Between them they have talked themselves into a big pay day. “I wouldn’t like to run down either of them. The fact of the matter is Mayweather is one of the best boxing champions ever really and the other fella is not.

“Ring up Sebastian Vettel and see if he wants to challenge Lewis Hamilton to a race around Mondello. Do you think he would stand a chance?”

And Jimmy said that unlike many other people, he won’t be staying up until the early hours of Sunday to see the fight.

He added: “No, I won’t watch it. Not at that time in the morning.

“I’m a big fan of sport but this is not boxing, this is not anything.

“I’m not surprised at the Irish lad that’s fair enough but the other fella should have enough money after a sterling career. I don’t understand it. “It’s beyond comprehension.”

And Jimmy said he thinks Mcgregor will last a few rounds and not just a few minutes as people are predicting.

He concluded: “I don’t think so because if that happens it leaves the thing out to dry.

“It leaves you and I and everybody else out to think it was a fix if it was over in that split of time. You have to get some mileage out of it.

“You have to get four or five [rounds] out of it anyway.”

The blockbuster fight between the pair is set to be the second biggest betting event of the year after the Grand National at Aintree.
