Swansea want Bayern star to fill Sigurdsson’s shoes

-

SWANSEA CITY are set to join the fight for Bayern Munich’s Renato Sanches as they seek a replacement for Gylfi Sigurdsson

Sanches has asked to be left out of the Bayern squad in order to sort out his future a year since joining the German giants from Benfica.

A long-term target of Jose Mourinho at Manchester United, the Portugal international was believed to have been set to sign a loan deal earlier in the summer that would have taken him to Old Trafford.

But that deal never went through and now Swansea have joined Champions League clubs Chelsea, Liverpool and AC Milan in trying to sign him on loan before the transfer window closes on Thursday night.

The 19-year-old star took Cristiano Ronaldo’s 12-year record as the youngest Portuguese player to play in an international tournament when he was called up for Euro 2016.

After helping his country to win the title, he walked away with the young-player-ofthe-tournament title. Swansea boss Paul Clement has some serious cash to spend after selling Sigurdsson to Everton in a deal believed to be worth around £45million.

Some of that may be used to lure striker Wilfried Bony (left) back to south Wales from Manchester City, but Sanches could be the man to inherit Sigurdsson’s mantle as the darling of the home fans at the Liberty Stadium

Although Sanches played in all of Bayern’s pre-season matches, he has failed to make an impact in Germany.
