ALL-IRELAND HURLING

-

Had his moments but not his best day this year, struggled with Pauric Mahony at times.

Copperfastened his All Star with another commanding display, particularly after the break.

Absent for first goal, was streetwise in hauling down Maurice Shanahan to avoid another. Predictably safe as houses with a wall of defenders guarding the Deise goal. Quiet day.

Encountered a tricky customer in Conor Cooney so it wasn’t an easy game for Fives.

In Johnny Glynn’s face from the start and snuffed him out, but declined after break.

Used his experience and physical presence to imposed himself on young Conor Whelan.

Back as sweeper after ban, performed usual role but made a couple of errors.

Waterford needed him to fire but never got going. Visibly upset after.

Initially struggled on Joe Canning but got a handle on Galway’s key man as game wore on.

Almost a top-class performance in midfield but illness last week hampered him.

Fortuitous first half goal from inside his own half put the gloss on a so-so display.

Superb fifth minute goal but turning point was missing an easy 48th minute chance.

His side’s best performer, and not just for scoring 11 points. Worked his socks off.

Replaced after 14 minutes of second half after he was shut down by Adrian Tuohey.

Only lasted 23 minutes due to injury. Presence fooled Colm Callanan for second goal.

Provided assist for opening goal. 56th minute exit could be end of magnificent service.

So good in the semifinal in the De Burca role, struggled on the left flank.
