Mass rock parade amid mine threat

-

HUNDREDS of people joined a parade to help preserve a Mass rock they claim is threatened by a mine.

Dalradian Gold has been prospecting near Greencastle, Co Tyrone, for seven years and controls the land around Crockanboy rock.

It refused Tyrone’s Ancient Order of the Hibernians permission to visit the site on Sunday until talks could be established but the parade went ahead on Mullydoo Road.

Dalradian Gold said: “We have equal respect for all faith groups.”

It said plans for a mine and processing plant in the Sperrins will not negatively hit the environment.

Residents are concerned about the potential use of cyanide on site, as well as the impact on an area of outstanding natural beauty.
