Police probe after trolls in ‘rape MP’ call
A FEMALE MP has called in detectives after trolls wrote online she should be “raped by 100 Muslims”.
Police are investigating threatening Facebook messages aimed at Lancaster and Fleetwood Labour MP Cat Smith.
One troll wrote about Ms Smith: “She should be raped by 100 Muslims stupid bitch.” Another said: “Hope she gets raped then.”
Ms Smith, 32, said: “Personally, I’m not unduly worried. I take advice from police around personal safety very seriously.
“But I’m just angry social media companies do not take their responsibilities seriously enough when it comes to this sort of thing.”
MPS are set to debate on Thursday the abuse politicians face from the public, especially during elections.
