Stonehenge to get tunnel

A TUNNEL 1.8 miles long will be built beneath the Stonehenge World Heritage Site as part of a £1.6billion road upgrade.

The Government aims to ease the A303 near the stone circle in Wiltshire.

Highways England chief executive Jim O’sullivan said: “This will enhance, protect and restore tranquillity to one of the UK’S most iconic landscapes.

But Time Team presenter Tony Robinson slammed it as “the most brutal intrusion into the Stone Age landscape ever”.
