‘Dentist gripe led to jail riot’

AN inmate’s protest at not being allowed to see a dentist sparked a 15-hour jail riot that caused £1million damage, a court was told.

Stolen keys were used to let out more than 500 lags at HMP Birmingham.

Guards were allegedly hit with TVS, pool balls and paint tins last December, jurors were told.

Carl Brookes, 33, Ross Queen, 30, John Burton, 39, and Luke Mansell, 24, deny mutiny at the G4s-run jail. Their trial at the city’s crown court continues.
