Why am I having a nose bleed?

-

Symptoms: A nose bleed that seems to come from the front of your nose. You’re guilty of picking your nose or blowing very hard

Repeated nose bleeds. You have high blood pressure.

You’ve suddenly started to have nose bleeds. You get tired easily and feel run down. Bruises are beginning to appear for no reason.

It could be: Damage to the Little’s area, just inside the middle of the nostril, which contains many delicate blood vessels and can be easily damaged.

Bleeding from the back of your nose due to hard arteries, made worse by your high blood pressure.

A blood clotting abnormality which could be down to drugs such as aspirin or blood thinning medicines, or a condition such as leukaemia.

Stop it: Put your head forward, squeeze your nostrils for 2-3 minutes to help the blood clot. If it happens often your GP can cauterise it.

See your GP for treatment. When it bleeds squeeze just below the bridge for several minutes.

Deal with the nose bleed as above in the second row and see your doctor for tests to find the cause of your blood clotting disorder.
