TOMMY READY FOR BIG EXAM

- BY MICHAEL SCULLY BY MICHAEL SCULLY

JONATHAN Davies is poised for his return for the Scarlets tomorrow and Tommy Bowe would relish the chance to go up against the Lions’ Player of the series in New Zealand.

Bowe has returned to the centre role that he excelled in for the Ospreys and, with Robbie

Henshaw only coming back from injury and

Garry Ringrose out until

November at the earliest, Joe Schmidt will be monitoring the veteran Bowe against the title holders.

“I know Joe and

Andy Farrell were both at training a few weeks ago,” said Bowe.

“I haven’t really spoken to them, I’ve spoken to Les (Kiss) who passed the message through Joe – it’s the same message, he just wants me to get game time, I haven’t played since March. I’ve four games under my belt (since March).

“My goal is always to represent my country and Ulster. There’s no point playing professional rugby if you’re not going to aim for the top.”

Davies is likely to get his first taste of action since the Lions’ draw with the All Blacks in the third Test.

Bowe will need to be at full tilt against Davies. “Yeah I will need it alright – or he might,” he joked.

“Listen, I know Jonathan Davies well, what a year he had last season and I was delighted to see him win Player of Lions tour and a hell of a tour it was.

“He’ll be an interesting guy to come up against.

“But I’m enjoying getting a little bit more involved in the game and with the strength in depth that we have all over the backline, it’s good to show that I can play in a few positions.”
