Jesus AFTER their home in Rotterdam was buffeted by the tail end of Storm Aileen, Feyenoord were totally blown away by City.
This game should have carried a force 10 gale warning for the Dutch champions because of the damage wreaked by Pep Guardiola’s men.
Feyenoord were left in tatters as City ripped into them to get their campaign off to a flying start.
The Blues were 3-0 up in 25 minutes before John Stones headed home his second of the night to complete the scoring at a shellshocked De Kuip.
The ground translates to ‘The Tub’ in English, and this was some thumping.
It was the ideal way for Guardiola to win his first Champions League away game with City, who triumphed on the road in Europe for the first time since February 2016.
David Silva and Kevin De Bruyne were the architects of their first win in Holland. The little Spanish wizard created the first of Stones’ two goals and floated around the pitch for an hour, leaving Feyenoord’s hapless players trailing in his wake.
Silva began the rout after just 95 seconds, crossing for Stones to connect with a header which the bungling Tonny Vilhena managed to let dribble through his legs at the back post.
That set the tone for the match as City laid siege to the goal guarded with difficulty by former Liverpool keeper Brad Jones. Eric Botteghin cleared over his own bar when Gabriel Jesus threatened. But Aguero made it 2-0 on 10 minutes with his 23rd Champions League goal in 41 games for City.
Bernardo Silva fed Kyle Walker sprinting down the right and he crossed for Aguero to sweep the ball home.
City No.1 Ederson played with protective headgear – although he barely needed it for all the action he saw.
The Brazilian proved he was switched on to save Michiel Kramer’s shot after Jean-paul Boetius robbed Bernardo Silva in midfield.
That was the briefest of respites for Feyenoord as the visitors scored again on 25 minutes.
Jones parried Benjamin Mendy’s shot and Jesus tapped home the loose ball with the home side appealing in vain for offside.
Then De Bruyne crossed for Aguero, but his radar was faulty for once and he shot wide.
It mattered not and City scored a fourth with the clock showing 63 minutes. De Bruyne sent in a tantalising cross to pick out Stones, who nodded home from inside the six-yard box (above). In one evening, the England centre-half had doubled his goals tally for the club.
City’s night had begun with the inconvenience of having to switch their new third kit to the traditional sky blue because it clashed with the officials’ outfits.
The new strip is a dark camouflage green – but nothing can disguise the fact City mean business in the tournament.
