ROBBIE SET TO RETURN AFTER OP

- BY MICHAEL SCULLY

ROBBIE HENSHAW has revealed that his injury rehab has gone to plan and he will be ready to rock for Leinster next week.

Henshaw is targeting a return in the Blues’ RDS Guinness PRO14 clash with Edinburgh on Friday week.

The Athlone man needed surgery after suffering a pectoral muscle injury with the Lions in New Zealand.

“I came home from the Lions tour on the Sunday and had the operation on the Monday,” said Henshaw.

“It will be 12 weeks on Monday. Everything has gone to plan. There were no setbacks or hiccups.”

Rob Kearney, however, admits he faces a race against time to make it back for Ireland’s November internationals after yet another hamstring injury setback.

The experienced full-back says it will be four or five weeks before he’s able to return.

“The annoying thing for me is that I have one of the strongest sets of hamstrings in the club,” said Kearney, who broke a small bone in his ankle and ruptured the PCL in his knee last year.

“Then what happens is your running mechanics start to be altered and you don’t move exactly like you did beforehand. There are so many different intricate things I need to stay on top of on a daily basis.

“When you are in the gym every morning to stay on top of those things, doing 60-90 minutes before all the other lads come in, and that happens it’s tough to take.”

Meanwhile, Leinster yesterday announced a five-year extension of their sponsorship deal with Bank of Ireland.
