Tragedy as girl, 10, dies after collapsing in her classroom
Principal’s tribute to ‘kind & caring child’
A COMMUNITY has been plunged into mourning after a young pupil collapsed in her classroom and died.
It is understood Isobel Anderson was resuscitated by staff and paramedics at Dromore Central Primary School before she was rushed to hospital where she passed away on Wednesday.
Principal Linda Allen said the 10-year-old was a “kind, caring and
gentle child”. She told the Dromore Leader: “The whole school community has experienced profound sadness.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with Isobel’s mum and dad, her three sisters who are also pupils at Dromore Central and the extended family circle.
“Isobel’s wide circle of friends and classmates are heartbroken by her untimely loss and are being supported at this time by staff and relevant professionals. Isobel was a quiet but very popular pupil who always had a smile on her face and was recently described by her class teacher as a ‘breath of fresh air’. She will be remembered with great love.”
A Northern Ireland Ambulance Service spokesman said they were called to the Co Down school at 1.41pm on Tuesday.
He added: “A rapid response vehicle and two A&E crews were dispatched.
“Following assessment and treatment at the scene by paramedics one patient was transported to the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children.”
A PSNI spokesman said a postmortem will take place to determine the cause of death.
