NO-NONSENSE RON LAYS DOWN LAW..

- BY DAVID ANDERSON

RONALD KOEMAN has warned all his Everton players to behave, following Wayne Rooney’s drinkdrive ban.

Rooney admitted the offence in court on Monday, and Everton have hit the former England captain with a two-week fine of £300,000 in wages, with the money going to the club’s community work.

Koeman has used Rooney’s conviction to remind the striker and the rest of his squad of the need to act responsibly.

“I speak to every player about all the football, on the pitch, off the pitch, and it’s not particular to Wayne,” said the Blues boss. “It’s all my players. “I know the social part of life, the private life, about behaviour and discipline in the team and outside.

“It’s not more about Wayne or somebody else, it’s the whole picture.” Rooney is keen to move on from the humiliating episode and Koeman says he will return for tomorrow’s clash against Bournemouth, after being rested for the midweek Carabao Cup win over Sunderland.

“It’s already the past,” said Koeman. “The biggest impact was when it happened and the next few days after that, and in that time, he was also playing.

“I think it’s the end of the story. He’s said enough about this, and it’s not up to me to continue talking about what happened.

“He had a day off on Wednesday. He was in the stadium and he did a session on Thursday morning.

“He looked good and is focused on his football.”

Dominic Calvert-lewin (above), 20, shone in Rooney’s absence, scoring twice in the win over the Black Cats and was only denied a hat-trick by the woodwork.

But Koeman says the England Under-20 World Cup winner can still improve much more.

“In most aspects of football he needs to improve, in holding the ball and his movement, like any striker of his age,” added the Dutchman.

“He’s really a big talent. He’s strong, he’s fast, and he showed against Sunderland he can score goals.

“He’s disciplined, he’s hard working, he’s listening. He always shows commitment. He can play as a nine, and 11, a seven and with two strikers. There are a lot of possibilities.”
