It’s been a year since LCD Soundsystem stormed the Electric Picnic main stage thrilling Irish fans who feared they would never see the band play live. For five years prior to their triumphant Stradbally appearance, frontman James Murphy and co had played a farewell tour putting an end to the New York electro outfit.
But cut to 2017 and LCD Soundsystem is back on Irish shores for a three-night sold-out stint in Dublin’s Olympia Theatre, armed with a critically-acclaimed new album in tow.
The long-awaited comeback record American Dream is the group’s first album in seven years.
And their fourth album and the follow-up to 2010’s hugely successful This is Happening, has given the cult dance rock act its first US Billboard No 1 despite their long career.
The No 1 record comes a decade on from Murphy (right) attempting to top the charts with their second album Sound of Silver.
The 47-year-old All My Friends hitmaker asked fans to buy the album in the first week of release, so as to send it to No 1.
But the 15,000 copies sold in the first week were only enough to send it to No 46 in the chart.
LCD Soundsystem announced their retirement in 2011 with a show at Madison Square Gardens but they reformed last year, partly inspired by the late great David Bowie.
“I spent a good amount of time with David Bowie, and I was talking about coming back and getting the band back together,” Murphy told Rolling Stone.
“He said, ‘Does it make you uncomfortable?’ I said ‘Yeah,’ and he said, ‘Good – it should. You should be uncomfortable.”
Fans lucky enough to get a ticket for the Irish shows - September 27, 28 and 29 – can expect a blistering set jampacked with stone-cold classics such as Get Innocuous! and Someone Great alongside new tracks I Used To and Tonite.
