- BY CHRIS HUGHES Defence and Security Editor on the North Korean border

NORTH Korea’s despot Kim Jongun branded President Trump “mentally deranged” and a “gangster” yesterday and threatened to test an H-bomb in the Pacific.

Hitting back at Trump’s threat to “totally destroy” North Korea, Kim said he would launch the “highest level of hard-line countermeasure in history” and warned Trump would “pay dearly”.

Kim’s Foreign Minister Ri Yong-ho was asked for clarification about the threat, and said: “It could be the most powerful detonation of an H-bomb in the Pacific.”

Kim, 33, also dubbed Trump, 71, a IT’S been a while... but Goodfellas stars Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci are reunited for a new movie by director Martin Scorsese.

De Niro and Pesci, both 74, star in The Irishman, which will also feature Al Pacino, 77. The £82million Netflix film is about the disappearance of US union boss Jimmy Hoffa.

It will be the fourth time De Niro and Pesci have acted together after Raging Bull (1980), Goodfellas (1990) and Casino (1995). “dotard”, meaning he is elderly and senile, highlighting the fact the American leader is more than twice his age.

As they traded insults, enraged Trump tweeted: “Kim Jong-un of North Korea, obviously a madman who doesn’t mind starving or killing his people, will be tested like never before!”

Earlier this month North Korea exploded a hydrogen bomb 10 times bigger than the Hiroshima bomb. Japan’s Defence Minister Itsunori Onodera last night warned a nuclear missile “may fly over our country”. In South Korea, troops were on highalert in hidden bases all along the 140mile border, while a survey found 70% of civilians in the capital Seoul are worried war will break out. Kim yesterday pledged to continue his nuclear programme. He said Trump’s remarks had “convinced me, rather than frightening or stopping me, that the path I chose is correct”.

North Korea has launched dozens of missiles since Kim came to power in 2011. He aims to develop a missile capable of hitting the US and in the past month two North Korean ballistic missiles have been flown over Japan.

North Korea’s Foreign Minister Ri Yong Ho had likened Trump to a “barking dog”, and Kim yesterday added “a frightened dog barks louder”.

He said Trump had “insulted me and my country” and accused him of being “unfit to hold the prerogative of supreme command of a country”.
