KARIUS IS UP FOR A PREM TILT

- FROM JOHN CROSS in Moscow

LORIS KARIUS last night claimed he will use the Champions League to win his place as Liverpool’s No.1.

Kop boss Jurgen Klopp has told him he will start in Europe ahead of first-choice Simon Mignolet and the German keeper wants to prove a point.

Karius (above) revealed for the first time that he was playing with an injury when he lost his place last season – and came in for fierce criticism from TV pundits Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville.

But he was brimming with confidence as he spoke ahead of another big test tonight.

Karius said: “For us it is just about performing and showing the manager what we are capable of. I see it as a chance. I didn’t have an easy start last season.

“I had a couple of setbacks but now I feel good. I see it as a chance to eventually get back into the Premier League.

“This is a big chance to prove myself and show the manager I am ready.”

Karius will probably have to win back the confidence of some of the fans after last season, especially with Mignolet pulling off a penalty save at Leicester.

But Karius admitted he was not at his best last season.

He added: ”I wasn’t 100 per cent ready when I came back from my injury and maybe it was a bit too early. But as a team we didn’t play well for a couple of games.

“There were a couple of experts who said things but you can’t
