AMAZEING GOAL RUN FOR LAMB

Lisburn club follow up last week’s 8 to bag another 7 and manager won’t Lower his sights until they win some silverware

FIFTEEN goals in two games has Lower Maze dreaming of glory this season.

The Lisburn side continued their upturn in form by hitting seven past bottom side Dromore Amateurs at the weekend.

It was the second game on the bounce when they’ve scored for fun and kept them out at the other end.

And their latest haul makes them the top scorers across the whole of Mid-ulster so far with 27 in the league alone.

And boss John Lamb (circled) is hoping they can continue in that groove and fire themselves to silverware.

“Our aim this season is to win the league and do ourselves justice in the cups,” he said.

“We want to do well in our own Alan Wilson Cup and one or two of the other knockout competitions.

“We were unlucky to be put out of the Steel and Sons when St Pat’s scored the winner with four minutes to go.

“We’re going into every game with ambitions of doing well and the results are starting to show that.

“We were one of the top scorers in the league last season and this season we’ve continued in that vein.

“The nil against on Saturday again was very pleasing because it shows we’re getting it right at both ends.

“We know that on our day we’re a match for anyone so winning and scoring plenty of goals sends out a message to the others.”

Saturday’s seven-goal win over Dromore Amateurs was never in doubt from the moment Samuel Davidson opened the scoring.

Marty Mcdonnell fired in a hattrick with a double for Thomas Neill and Peter Smyth also on target.

It took their winning run to three on the spin after putting eight past Seapatrick and winning 4-2 at Seagoe.

Lamb added: “I said to the boys coming into Saturday’s game that it wouldn’t be every week we would score eight as we had done at Seapatrick.

“But we managed to get seven and, in truth, it could have been more.

“We have been building towards those sorts of results and been threatening it.

“At the start of the season we struggled to get a settled side out and then we picked up injuries in the first couple of games.

“That mean we were leaking a lot of goals but we have worked on tightening up at the back and we’ve only conceded two in our last three matches now.”

Those last three fixtures for Maze have been spread out across a month – meaning trying to maintain momentum has been tricky.

And that isn’t aided by the fact they’re not due to play again this weekend.

For Lamb it’s a case of trying to keep them ticking over during the gaps in action.

“We want to keep playing games,” he said. “They can’t come quick enough for us at the minute. When you’re winning games, tails are up and confidence grows every time you win.

“It’s frustrating not to have a game this Saturday but we’ll get a good training in and use the break to our advantage.”

Lamb has been steadily building since moving into senior management with Maze. He’s had the squad on a gradual learning curve, working
