Sexism beats stupidity as wannabe moguls do battle
Alan Sugar’s latest batch of female recruits had an early taste of The World According To Karren Brady when The Apprentice returned last night.
One of their number had bravely suggested that young male office workers were more likely to buy a gourmet burger from a pretty girl.
At this Karren pulled her very best “bulldog flossing with stingy nettles” face. The thing is, while Karren may be absolutely right that a woman’s beauty should not count either for or against her I am not sure she was doing her best for the team.
After all, this first task was about sales. And by the looks of it the girls needed all the leg-ups they could get. The only reason they ended up victorious was that the boys team exhibited some even more cliched male behaviour – pride, arrogance, stupidity, impetuousness…
In other words, Sugar has assembled another moronic bunch of “moguls in the making” for us to laugh at.
It’s too early to remember them by name, but I’m sure “Where’s Wally?”, “Tall Sue Perkins”, “Tory Gonk” and “Young Hilary Devey” have made an impression on you so far.
Of course, if they manage to walk away with £250k they won’t care about a little social media annihilation.
They’ll also happily take any amount of abuse from Sugar, who seemed even crabbier than usual last night.
At one point he barked at one of the girls: “Your burger looked like a constipated tortoise.”
Bit harsh that, Al. Still, takes one to know one.
