Sue: ‘Brucie pride in our good Game’

In it for the short term

- BY FRANCESCA GOSLING

SUE Perkins hopes the late Sir Bruce Forsyth would be proud of her fronting a reboot of his TV hit The Generation Game.

She hosts with ex-bake Off co-presenter Mel Giedroyc and said: “You can’t even think about it as filling his shoes. Those shoes are unfillable.

“I hope he would be proud of the spirit of love we’re imbuing it with and the silliness.”

She told Jonathan Ross the BBC1 show, airing next year, was “full of the public wanting to play and dress up and fart about”.

She said: “It’s really good fun so far, I can’t wait.”

Brucie, who died in August at 89, hosted the show in two stints between 1971 and 1994. The Jonathan Ross Show is on ITV on Saturday at 9.45pm.

FORMER TORY MINISTER

GEORGE Canning holds the record for the shortest term as prime minister, serving just 119 days in 1827 from April 10 to August 8.

In ninth spot is Theresa May at 1 year, 85 days from July 13, 2016, to today.

If she limps on until Christmas Day she would have racked up 1 year, 165 days pushing her down to 13th place.

into a debacle on Wednesday. A prankster handed her a fake P45, part of the Tory slogan fell on the floor, and she kept coughing.

One Tory MP described the situation as “a disaster”.

A colleague compared the PM to a pet “waiting to be put down”.

To trigger a leadership contest it would take 48 MPS to write to the backbench 1922 Committee expressing no confidence in her.

Instead, the rebels are putting together a small delegation to confront the PM who has been beset by fiascos including the snap election and Brexit talks.

Ladbrokes has now slashed the odds on Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson – accused of trying to undermine the PM over Brexit – becoming the next Tory leader to 4/1, making him the new favourite ahead of Brexit Secretary David Davis.
