Sarah’s Millicandid about weirdo fans

-

SARAH Millican has spoken candidly about her fame-related anxiety problems, saying the way some people treat her is “utterly terrifying”.

The TV comic says the majority of those she meets after gigs behave in a normal, friendly fashion. But there are a few who aren’t so pleasant.

In her autobiography How to be Champion she admits: “I’m not great at meeting fans because of some odd experiences that made me nervous.

“Some are drunk, some put their hand on your a**e, some grab at you, and occasionally someone tries to get you in their car...

This makes me nervous of everyone, which is a shame.”

A “fan” once tweeted that he had just watched her putting the bins out, which had a lasting effect. “I used to sit in my car for 20 minutes psyching myself up for the five-minute walk to my front door. These days I don’t answer the door or phone and someone else opens my post.”

This is all because when you’re famous “people think you’re not a real person” she reckons. “They can’t imagine your anxiety goes crackers or that sometimes you have a little cry.

“I feel very vulnerable when I’m out on my own. My anxiety flares up when I’m out and about. When it’s bad I sometimes cancel social things and just stay at home.”

Sarah, 42, also explains why she doesn’t have children: “Genuinely. Hate. Kids.” OK, we get the message...
