I’LL EXORCISE MY DEMONS AS WE CHASE A PLACE IN RUSSIA

- BY JAMES NURSEY

Georgia v Wales 5pm

CHRIS COLEMAN is looking for hope and redemption in Georgia.

Wales have never beaten their hosts in four attempts and must put an end that sorry statistic tonight against a side ranked 90 places below them to boost their World Cup prospects.

For the Dragons boss a return to Tbilisi is also a chance to exorcise more demons. He was in the team thrashed 5-0 in Georgia in a Euro 96 qualifier, one of the nation’s worst results. Coleman is anxious to bury those “horrible” memories when he returns to the Boris Paichadze Stadium, where a crowd of up to 50,000 is expected.

Coleman said: “The last time I was in Tbilisi was horrible. I’m not going to be coy.

“It was nearly 25 years ago but this team is on a different level to the team I was in, albeit that we had some big hitters.

“We weren’t a team at that time, this is a team. It’s going to be a fiery atmosphere and it will be similar to Belgrade in that the last time I was on that pitch, it was awful.

“The last time I was there in Tbilisi representing my country, it was awful.”

Coleman (above) insists he has not travelled in trepidation – even without injured star man Gareth Bale.

“The word is trust,” said Coleman. “It comes down to trust and I completely trust them.”
