TOM LAYS DOWN LAW
FROM JAMES NURSEY in Tbilisi CHRIS COLEMAN hailed Tom Lawrence’s “sensational” winner that kept Wales’ World Cup dream alive.
Lawrence (above) shattered Georgia with a
25-yard screamer in the
49th minute.
And boss Coleman beamed: “I am absolutely thrilled for Tom – the goal was sensational. His performance showed courage and maturity.”
The Derby winger had been replaced by 17-year-old
Ben Woodburn in Wales’ two previous qualifiers with the Liverpool starlet going on to steal the show.
But last night in Georgia it was
Lawrence’s turn to be Wales’ match-winner with his first interntional goal.
Coleman added: “Tom did a real good job for us against Austria. He came off the pitch and it was all about Ben Woodburn’s goal. “Again in Moldova he did a job for us and Ben goes on and crosses the ball for the goal.
“To come here and get anything from them we knew it would be tough. But the game-plan worked, we worked on it all week.”
Now Wales are set-up for a dynamite final qualifier at home to the Republic of Ireland on Monday at a sell-out Cardiff City Stadium.
Coleman added: “I think it will be a sensational atmosphere in Cardiff. The Republic will come to party, they won’t fear us.
“They won’t be afraid, they’ll come to us and expect to get a result.”
