You old romantic... how Eamonn proposed by text
Wife Ruth reveals host took punt at races
RUTH Langsford has revealed that hubby Eamonn Holmes proposed to her by text at a horse racing track.
The pair have been married since 2010 and while popping the question by SMS may not seem like the most romantic idea, the way the North Belfast man did it very much was.
Ruth said the couple had been in a relationship for 14 years and were at the races when Eamonn plucked up the courage.
Speaking on Loose Women, Ruth revealed: “Well I have to say, my husband did propose by text.
“And I always feel I need to defend him which annoys me because it was a really beautiful moment.
“We were at the races and we were in a box with some people and I’d had a few drinks – I’d won a bit on the horses and was having a lovely time.
“Eamonn had gone out to the loo, and when he came back he said there were men in the box with us who were flirting with me or chatting with me. And he said he thought, ‘I don’t like that, flirting with my wife’.
“And then he went, ‘Actually she’s not my wife. She should be my wife.’”
And thus came the cunning plan. Ruth added: “He went out then and composed this great long text, like a beautiful love letter.
“Then he said to me, ‘Right, come on’, and dragged me out.”
In the taxi going home, Eamonn told Ruth to check her phone.
She said: “I got my phone out and saw a text from Eamonn.
We’re in the back of the car together and I thought, ‘Oh I bet he’s sent me a saucy message or something.’
“So then I opened it and there was this beautiful, beautiful letter really.
“And then right at the end it just said, ‘Will you marry me?’
“And because we didn’t know this driver I texted him back and went, ‘Yes please.’
“And then we sat and held hands the whole way home and it was really romantic.”
