And captain Glass has been nothing but impressed with the impact they’ve made already.

“Keith had many offers to come back into football,” he said, “so it was great that he chose to come to us.

“Both he and Dessie have been brilliant – they have great experience and been everywhere in the game. We certainly feel lucky to have them and it’s all about building for the future.

“This year is a bit of a transition­al year for the club; we’ve tried to recruit younger players and blend those with the more experience­d ones.

“The Christian ethos of the club makes it that bit harder to recruit people, not to mention how many other teams are around us and the incentives some of them are offering.

“But we’re pleased with the squad we have, the blend is good. We just need to find that consistenc­y and momentum.

“Keith had a pre-season to look at things and we knew it was always going to take time and patience but there are some good signs.

“On a personal level I’m really enjoying still playing for the club.

“I’m 35 and been here for more than 10 years and I’ve played most of that time at centre-back.

“But I’ve been playing on the wing in the last couple of games which has been fun – it’s nice to
