Glens are short on strikers

Glentoran v Carrick 7.45

GLENTORAN boss Gary Haveron admits he may be lacking fire power for tonight’s Betmclean League tie against Carrick Rangers at The Oval.

Striker Robbie Mcdaid is serving a one-game ban following his dismissal in the league win at Ards on Saturday while John Mcguigan is recovering from a tooth abscess.

It means Haveron will be forced to reshuffle his pack for this third round tie.

“It will be a difficult game, Carrick made life difficult for us at The Oval last month,” said Haveron. I don’t know whether John will make it. He had to visit hospital at the weekend because of his tooth problem.

“Robbie has been doing well, his sending off at the weekend was a bit of a nonsense.”

Haveron was thrilled with his team’s 1-0 win at Ards, adding: “I asked them for a big performance after the Crusaders defeat. My only criticism was we were not ruthless enough in front of goal. Hopefully, we can put that right against Carrick.”

Meanwhile, Willie Faulkner’s dismissal at the weekend at Dungannon rules him out of the Ballymena United team for tonight’s clash with struggling Portadown.

David Jeffrey’s boys will look to get back on track against a side that has lost its last four games in the Championship.

Warrenpoint Town manager Matty Tipton will hope to end a depressing run of defeats when his team roll out the welcome mat for Dungannon Swifts at Milltown.

“We were being punished for every mistake,” said Tipton. “We are not playing particularly poorly but we are conceding too many soft goals and it has to stop.”

THIRD ROUND FIXTURES: (all 7.45pm kick-offs) Ballymena United v Portadown, Glentoran v Carrick Rangers, Warrenpoint Town v Dungannon Swifts.
