HERE’S a curry so hot it comes with a warning – and it will only be sold to over-16s.

The explosive Volcanic Vindaloo is made with the Naga chilli, which is 200 times hotter than Tabasco sauce and has a rating of one million on the Scoville chilli scale.

And the scorcher – said to be as fiery as pepper spray – can leave a burning sensation in the mouth for up to 15 minutes. The dish has an unprecedented six chillies warning on the pack and is stamped with “Caution Hot”, as well as a logo showing a chilli on fire. The meal is topped with whole green chillies for extra bite. Created to mark National Curry Week, this week, the Volcanic Vindaloo follows claims from ready meals fans that supermarket curries THE dish looks harmless enough – like a classic vindaloo, with a deep, rich colour. The first mouthful has an intense flavour with earthy spices.

At first, I thought the volcano was dormant as the chicken and sauce combo seemed reserved, with a hint of cumin, ginger and fennel were “too tame”. Sean Gill, of Morrisons, said: “I’m used to tasting spicy curries as part of my job, but this one blew my head off. It tastes fantastic, but my mouth felt like it was on fire.” The Carolina Reaper is the world’s hottest chilli at 2.2 million on the scale, the Trinidad Scorpion is second on 1.5 million and the Naga third. amongst the Naga chilli paste. But don’t be fooled – the heat builds up gradually and then the eruption hits. My nose started to run and sweat formed halfway through. And the addition of whole green chillies just adds to the pain.

The Volcanic Vindaloo lives up to its name but manages to retain a true curry taste despite the six chilli factor. Not for the faint-hearted.
