Belfast is just the job as it tops wages list

BELFAST has been ranked the toppaying city in the UK for workers in three particular jobs.

Nurses, telesales workers and bookkeepers in the city can all earn more than their counterparts across the UK and Ireland by up to 30%.

Website Cv-library found nurses in Belfast came top of the table on pay, taking home an average of 10% more than nurses in 24 other places with a salary of almost £30,000.

But telesales workers and bookkeepers are even better off staying put.

Telesales roles have an average salary of £19,157 in Belfast – almost a third above the British Isles average. The same applies for bookkeepers who can also earn up to 28% higher in Northern Ireland’s capital with an average salary of over £22,000.

Analysis of 167,000 jobs available on CV Library between September 27 and October 5 found substantial differences in salaries for doing the same work.

The research suggests someone looking for jobs in Belfast could surprisingly earn more money working in telesales than they could as a quality engineer. Lee Biggins, founder and managing director of Cv-library, said: “While it’s not groundbreaking to suggest those living in London get paid higher wage, it is surprising to see how much people’s salaries can vary for doing the same job depending on where they live. “It is reassuring to see jobs which are critical to the welfare of people, such as staff nurses and support workers, showing small levels of variance around the country with under £10,000 difference between low and high salaries.” In comparison, competitive industries such as dentistry or web development are seeing a difference of over £50,000 depending on location.”

For a primary school teacher, jobs in Liverpool offer up to 20% less money than the national average of £26,379.

Yet move to London and you could secure a salary 18% above the average.

The research suggests those skilled in some positions should consider positions across the British Isles to maximise their potential salary.
