Jail increase for terrorists

TERROR plotters will face tougher jail terms under new plans published today.

Sentences for lower level crime, such as helping attackers, will increase from 21 months to five years, to three to six years.

Guidelines also take in the “new category” of terrorists who use cars or knives to kill. The Sentencing Council said: “These offences are more serious than they have previously been perceived.”

Justice Minister Dominic Raab said sentences must be “rigorous and robust”.
