Jodrell Bank heritage bid

THE iconic Jodrell Bank Observatory is to be considered for Unesco World Heritage Site status.

The University of Manchester’s radio astronomy site in Cheshire, which is home to the 60-year-old Lovell Telescope, will be the next UK candidate in January 2018.

Prof Teresa Anderson of its Discovery Centre said: “We have been preparing the case for some years.”

UK sites already in the club include Stonehenge and the Tower of London.
