NOW SCHOLES IN TALKS TO TAKE OVER AT OLDHAM
PAUL SCHOLES has been interviewed by Oldham about taking charge at the struggling League One club.
The former Manchester United and England midfielder – a lifelong Latics supporter – met club officials yesterday to discuss their vacant manager’s job.
Oldham are without a boss since sacking John Sheridan
last month and another former United player Richie Wellens is currently caretaker boss.
Scholes, 42, has been working as a TV pundit since retiring in 2012 after 718 appearances and 155 goals for United.
Wellens, who has led the Latics to three wins, is in charge for Saturday’s visit by Blackburn and has the backing of their fans.
Oldham are 19th in League One, just a point off the relegation places, and admitted last week they were unable to pay players and staff last month.
The club’s parlous finances may ultimately put off Scholes, with a takeover seemingly the only way out of their predicament.
Scholes is favourite to take over, with Oldham keen for Wellens to stay as part of his coaching team if the United legend decides to take the job.
Oldham want a big-name boss and met former Milan and Holland star Clarence Seedorf last month.
