OSAKA WIN PUTS VENUS INTO SHOCK

-

JAPANESE teen Naomi Osaka stunned Venus Williams to claim a place in the Hong Kong Open semi-finals.

The 19-year-old’s 7-5 6-2 victory against the seven-times Grand Slam champion was the best of her career. “I felt like even if I hit one semi-short ball she would come in and crush it, so I had to play really well,” said the world No.64 (left).

Nick Kyrgios has been stripped of his first-round prize money and fined £7,500 after his controversial retirement in Shanghai on Tuesday.

He was unhappy with umpire Fergus Murphy for handing him a point penalty for an audible obscenity during a tie-break. And then he left opponent Steve Johnson baffled when he shook hands and walked off court after losing the first set on the tie-break.
