I like to think it’s not so much secrecy as protection. My husband shouldn’t have to worry his pretty little head about the cost of a new frock, a kids’ party, a school blazer... and particularly that camper van that’s still rusting out front.
I’ve done such a good job that I’m not entirely certain he’s yet found out about decimalisation.
I’m protecting him from the worry that comes in a bundle of shopping bags...
