Judge’s ban on ‘unlawful’ postie strike
ROYAL Mail has won an injunction that halts next week’s 48-hour strike, in the long-running row over pensions, pay and jobs.
A walkout by Communication Workers Union members – due to start on Thursday – was ruled unlawful at the High Court in London until “external mediation is exhausted”.
A strike ballot produced an 89.1% vote in favour on a 73.7% turnout of 110,000 members, well above the Government threshold.
Royal Mail said dispute resolution procedures will take until near Christmas.
But the CWU warned industrial action could still take place before then.
General Secretary Dave Ward said: “Unless it significantly shifts its position… strike action is inevitable.”
