Scots to turn to Moyes

- BY NEIL MCLEMAN

DAVID MOYES is ready to talk about becoming the next Scotland manager.

Former Cardiff boss Malky Mackay and Paul Lambert are also in the running following Gordon Strachan’s departure yesterday.

Moyes, available after quitting Sunderland in May, is understood to prefer a return to club management, with another stint at Everton not out

of the question given Ronald Koeman’s problems at Goodison.

But as a proud Scot, the former Manchester United boss will surely fancy a crack at reviving his country’s fortunes.

He told the Sunday Mirror last week: “I want to make sure that my next job ticks all the right boxes. I’m only 54. I still feel young and energised.”

Former Scottish international Pat Nevin believes Moyes is the ideal man for the job.

“If it were my choice I would go for David Moyes right away,” said Nevin

Mackay, who was forced to apologise for racist texts sent while Cardiff manager, has resurrected his career north of the border as the SFA performance director.

Former Villa and Wolves boss Lambert and Alex Mcleish, who had the job in 2007, are also available.

Former captain Graeme Souness said: “I think there are enough good Scotsmen who can do the job, someone who understands what it is all about up there.”

Scotland are unbeaten in 2017 but missed out on the World Cup play-offs on goal difference after drawing with Slovenia on Sunday.
