Beautiful Trauma is a typically paradoxical title for the artist, aka Alecia Beth Moore. The contents of album number seven fit the gameplan of a lady who has always put a premium on contrary individuality and rebel chic. There are feisty and combative jibes (title track Revenge), snuggling up to sincere, acoustic-based reflection (Barbie) and a putting-past-to-rights anthem (Where We Go). While the leaden predictability of song structures (as on For Now) won’t win new followers, the sense of continuity will satisfy fans.
