Prince William to present awards at our glittering event to honour heroes

- BY TAMMY HUGHES

PRINCE William is to be the guest of honour at the Daily Mirror’s prestigious Pride of Britain Awards 2017, Kensington Palace has announced.

He will join host Carol Vorderman and more than 100 of our biggest TV, music and sports stars to honour the UK’S unsung heroes at the glittering event.

The Prince, who served as an air ambulance pilot for two years, will present the award to the emergency services, nominated by viewers of ITV’S This Morning programme and Mirror readers, plus two other special recognition awards.

Millions of ITV viewers are expected to watch the climax of our 19th annual Pride of Britain Awards, in partnership with TSB, at the Grosvenor House in London’s Park Lane on Monday week.

It has become established as the biggest awards event of its kind on British TV. Carol said: “I’m delighted Prince William will join us. He certainly knows the challenges paramedics face on a daily basis.”

It will be the first time the Prince has attended, although his father Prince Charles has been involved for 17 years. Prince Charles said: “The Mirror’s Pride of Britain Awards shine a spotlight on the extraordinary achievements of individuals who have overcome unimaginable difficulties to make a difference to the lives of those around them.” Every serving Prime Minister has attended the Awards since the launch in 1999. Theresa May said that Pride of Britain recognises “the extraordinary courage of those who risk their lives in saving others”. Tens of thousands of nominations have been sent in by readers and ITV viewers. At an event for the finalists of the TSB Community Partner Award this month, Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn called the honours “brilliant”.
