JAMIE SCORES NEW DEAL

- BY DARREN FULLERTON

COLERAINE striker Jamie Mcgonigle says it was a no brainer to agree a new one year contract extension at the Showgrounds.

Mcgonigle, right, who was the Bannsiders’ top scorer with 19 goals last season, has pledged his future to the club until June 2020.

It’s a major boost for boss Oran Kearney who also recently tied goalkeeper Chris Johns, defender Adam Mullan, midfielder Ciaron Harkin and winger Ian Parkhill to new deals.

Mcgonigle, 21, who was recently included in Ian Baraclough’s Northern Ireland U21 squad, said: “The other lads signing new deals was a major incentive for me.

“Oran and the management staff have also been excellent and keep pushing me on. I just want to knuckle down now and keep scoring goals and help the team progress.”

Kearney added: “We want to keep our best players at the club and Jamie falls into that category. He has scored a lot of goals for us and will continue to do that at this level. “Since Eoin Bradley has been injured, he has taken on his role in holding the ball up and leading the line and has been superb.

“We have signed five players down to longer contracts and it’s good they all want to be here and I don’t want to lose any of them.”

Coleraine lie five points clear at the top of the Danske Bank Premiership table heading into tomorrow’s home clash with Glentoran.
